THE ALTAR

Independent work • Architectural Sculpture

2020

Material: Poplar wood, Xuan paper, gouache, and ink.

Dimensions: Height: 41cm; Length: 30cm; Width: 30cm

Technique: Handmade and assembled without nails or glue; Gouache on Xuan paper

Details: Inspired by the architectural style of ancient temples built throughout many Asian cultures, for instance, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, and China, I made an altar with the appearance of a Buddhist tower. This piece contains a handpainted Buddhist scroll painting inside the hollowed column that depicts the Kannon Bodhisattva, the symbol of mercy. This piece shows my belief in Buddhist practices and a statement of my worship of art-making.
